The Mate to Mate Project peer education program will target older men to let them know what aged and community services are available in their region. Orange will be one of the first areas in the state to offer the Mate to Mate Project, run by the Council on the Ageing (COTA). Men listen to other men, and having peer educators talking to men’s groups is an efficient way to spread men’s health messages.
People wishing to volunteer for the Mate to Mate Project should contact Christopher Smith at COTA NSW on 9286 3868 or 1800 449 102.
A visual arts exhibition organised by the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak in order to raise awareness of male-only cancers. It will be both fun and educational.
From the online Urban Dictionary - Daks Australian: to "dak" someone is to pull down their pants, usually in a crowded place to cause embarrassment. Daks being an Aussie term for trousers, a bit more formal than jeans. See also underdaks.

Prostate Cancer Support Groups
Part of the brief of Art Dako is to increase awareness of male-only cancers. This of course includes prostate cancer. Orange is lucky in having an active support group headed by Barry Moore randbmoore158@optusnet.com.au . Further contact details can be found on the Cancer Council Service Directory.

I think the safety pin may be the most used item.
These are beautiful. Perhaps someone can tie-dye?

Don't you just love a man in his socks and underdaks?

Testicular cancer support group
In all my searching I have not managed to find a support group in Australia dedicated to testicular cancer but there is one in the US called Single Jingles that has an active Facebook page and web site http://singlejingles.org/. You could find inspiration for your creative work from the web site.

(Daks originated from a brandname for slacks which did not need braces.)

Information on testicular cancer
Art Dako is about awareness raising as well as visual arts. Here is a link to a page from the Movember web site that contains facts about testicular cancer. Did you know that testicular cancer is the second most common form of cancer amongst men aged 18-39?

Unsure of what to create?
There have been exhibitions in support of breast cancer research which may give you inspiration for your underwear art. Try googling Arty Bra or Bra Art and you will find many images. Here are a couple of sites you can click on - Bra Art and BRAART. Note not everything involves sewing. There have been sculpted and welded bras, so go for it. Use your imagination.
Remember we would like creative men to be involved as much as possible and we have plenty of room for our exhibits so size doesn't matter!

What is Art Dako?
Art Dako exhibition
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak (RCOD) will be holding an exhibition called Art Dako on the 14th and 15th September 2012, designed to increase community awareness of issues around men-only cancers, specifically testicular and prostate cancer. The exhibition will have both creative and educational components and involve as many community groups and individuals as possible with no geographical restriction. The creative component will consist of displays and sale of visual arts items in multi-media; the educational component will be provided by relevant groups such as the Cancer Council, Orange Prostate Support Group and Lifeline. The creative works in the exhibition could involve a theme related to men's underwear, shorts, daks or codpieces, male anatomy or anything that relates to men-only cancers. They can be humerous but can also convey a message that raises awareness or educates.
